FAMILY GOOFS, BLOOPERS

& BLUNDERZ

Evan E. sometimes lost tools in Loon Lake while working on his dock.  One day he decided to pull a trick on wife Betty.  He wanted her to think he had gone crazy.

He tied a clear fishing line to his hammer then yelled up to Betty on the steps above him, " Look here Betty".  Then he threw the hammer into the lake.

After he thought Betty was throughly confused he calmly pulled in the line.  To his consternation the hammer was gone.  The lake had claimed another tool!

When Thelma was about 11 years old, the family was waiting on a downtown street corner for the bus home.  Thelma was day-dreaming as she looked in the store windows.  She began to sway, moving with some tune in her head.  Soon she was unconsciously dancing, still entranced with the shop window.

She was unaware that directly behind her was a happy drunk man who after watching her for a few moments began to mimic her movements.  This went on for some time until Thelma became aware of everyone at the bus-stop laughing.

The drunk slunk away after seeing the dirty look Thelma gave him.  Thelma dancing with the drunk man became a favorite family story.

Ernie and Edith M. were packing to move from Oregon to Spokane, WA. about 1953.  Ernie tried to save space so they could fit everything into their small car.

When he saw a large bottle of linament only partly filled, he grabbed a small empty bottle and poured in the linament, not taking time to mark the bottle.

Some weeks later when Edith was baking a cake she unpacked and used her "Vanilla".  It wasn't until they discovered that the cake had an unusual flavor that Ernie remembered what he'd done and fessed up.

This family seems to have a lot of problems baking cakes.  Della remembers the time Thelma was baking a cake, didn't notice that the page had turned and combined two different recipes.Thelma learned to make delicious cakes, which was hard with Wayne slamming doors to make them fall, as he preferred them that way.

Boyd & Leslie W. were newlyweds who hardly knew how to boil water. Their first Thanksgiving they invited another young married couple for dinner. Their kitchen was very tiny, in fact they lived in a remodeled garage. They kept getting in each others way but finally the turkey was done. It took them both to lift it out of the oven, but as they tried to move it onto the platter it slid off onto the floor.

After Leslie shed a few tears & Boyd mopped up the floor, they cleaned up the turkey and served it. The guests didn't notice any difference.

Some time ago Sheryl E. decided to wash her car. With son Joshua she found the hoses. Josh chose the black one & dragged it over to the car & Sheryl hooked up the hose to the faucet. After while Sheryl finished & came into the house, soaking wet, complaining to Doug about the leaky hose. After Doug put the hose away he came in laughing and told Sheryl that she had used the soaker hose.

Doug & Sheryl E. finished their dinner at a restaurant and Doug asked for a doggy bag. As they left their table Doug placed the foam food box under his arm and strolled across the room to the cashier, dripping gravy all the way.

When Thelma W. baked her first cherry pie everyone could hardly wait to dig in. After the first bite they were speechless. They were too busy spitting out the pits she had forgotten to remove.

Anita W. decided to make Jello when they worked at the egg ranch.

She only had a short break so being in a hurry she grabbed the first thing she saw to put it in, which was a pie pan. She hurried across the kitchen to the refrigerator but then realized the pan was empty. She had poured the Jello into a pie pan with holes in the bottom.

When Jeff Mikesell was babysitting young grandson Jimmy E. he took an opened can of hash out of the refrigerator and warmed it for their lunch. When Betty came home and asked what he had found for lunch, he told her. Betty knew that she had no hash so she rushed to the garbage & found the empty can. The brand name on the can was "Dash".  It was dog food!

When David W. was about 9 years old, he was hungry as usual so opened the freezer door to look for a snack. Soon his mom, Leslie, who was in the other room heard a noise. She sent Sheryl into the kitchen to see why David was making such weird sounds. Sheryl came back to report that David had his tongue stuck to the icy freezer shelf.    Warm water poured on his tongue soon solved his problem.

Early one morning, Boyd W. was going out the door, heading for work when he realized that it was garbage collection day.

To save steps, instead of carrying it down to the end of the driveway, 200 feet, then walking back, he placed the plastic can on the trunk of his car and drove slowly down the drive.

His wife Leslie, looked out the window just in time to see Boyd get to the end of the driveway, make a slow turn onto Campbell Road, another turn onto Elder Road and speed up, with the garbage can still upright on the trunk!

 KIDS SAY THE CUTEST THINGS!

A young boy was helping his grandfather dig potatoes. After a while the child began to tire. "Grandpa", he asked, "what made you bury these things anyway?"

Little Tim's Goldfish

Little Tim was in the garden filling in a hole when his neighbor peered over the fence.

Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster was up to, he politely asked, "What'cha doing, Tim?"

"My goldfish died," replied the boy tearfully, without looking up. "I've just buried him."

The neighbor was concerned. "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"

Tim patted down the last heap of earth, then replied, "That's because he's inside your dumb cat."

Grandma's Home

When I stopped the bus to pick up Chris for preschool, I noticed an older woman hugging him as he left the house. "Is that your grandmother?" I asked.

"Yes," Chris said. "She's come to visit us for Christmas."

"How nice," I said. "Where does she live?"

"At the airport," Chris replied. "Whenever we want her, we just go out there and get her."

  A FIFTH GRADER

poem written by our own Chris Baker, 1998

A FIFTH GRADER SMELLS LIKE A DIRTY GYM SOCK

IF HE DOESN'T TAKE A SHOWER

     A FIFTH GRADER FEELS FLAKY

          IF HE HAS DANDRUFF

A FIFTH GRADER IS LOUD AT RECESS

          I SEE HIM PLAYING BASKETBALL

     ABOUT EVERY DAY

A FIFTH GRADER TASTES LIKE AN OLD BANANA

A first grade teacher collected well-known proverbs. She gave each child in her class the first half of a proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb.  Their insight may surprise you:

Better to be safe than..................punch a 5th grader.

     Strike while the.........................bug is close.

It's always darkest before............... Daylight Savings Time.

Don't bite the hand that................. looks dirty.

You can't teach an old dog new............math.

If you lie down with dogs, you'll.........stink in the morning.

An idle mind is...........................the best way to relax.

     A penny saved is..........................not much.

Don't put off till tomorrow what..........you put on to go to bed.

Children should be seen and not...........spanked or grounded.

If at first you don't succeed.............get new batteries.

When the blind leadeth the blind..........get out of the way.

     And the favorite...

     Better late than..........................pregnant.

Wise Advice from Children

Rylee W. was showing Grandma a picture of a frog.  "Grandma, I think that's the biggest  frog in the whole tired world."

Rylee & Grandma W. were talking about why it's important to keep some secrets [Xmas etc.]  Rylee said "Grandma, I just can't keep secrets in my mouth for very long."

Josh E. after watching a news story about Canadian Drug Smugglers being comprehended, said "We'll just have to stop buying canadian bacon".

After his first encounter of reading the front of a sugar packet, Josh said, "I don't want poor sugar, I want rich sugar".  Josh's mom pondered on this for a minute, then replied "it's not poor sugar, it's pure sugar".

Another innocent moment;  Josh said,  "If I have been in 2nd grade for almost 1 year, then I must have been in 1st grade for 2 1/2 years".  This is proof that children have no concept of time and that spring break is well deserved.

KIDS DO & EAT THE DARNEDEST THINGS!

JOSHUA

A short story of Joshua the explorer and mighty hunter, as he is seen through his father's eyes

written by Doug Emerick, July 1994

It is a nice day and I think Joshua has another extensive exploring expedition planned for us. Joshua is a born explorer and mighty hunter. We went exploring a couple of days ago and he enjoyed it very much. When we came back from our journey I started working in our yard.

I raked the leaves on the south side of our home into a large pile. Right away Joshua's keen eyes noticed the new mountain of leaves before him. This was the kind of challenge he liked, after all he loved adventure and exploring. Mountain climbing would be a piece of cake. He soon made short work of that mountain as he tore through it, leaves flying everywhere. Once the mighty explorer's conquest of the mountain was achieved, he continued to hunt and explore on the lower plains of our yard.

I have to watch Joshua very closely, for he is a cunning and skilled hunter for his age and he hunts everything. You can see him crouch down and then those lightening fast hands reach out, using both hands at the same time, in different directions if he wants and he will have in his grasp what it is he is reaching for and then straight into his mouth it goes. He will eat anything. He will pick up rocks, leaves, twigs, grass, acorn shells from our tree, anything and everything, and after the other day a new item on his list, worms.

Here is what happened. I was standing approximately five feet away from Joshua when I noticed he was crouched down and he was stalking something. I looked a little closer and I could see that he was watching a small worm that was crawling on the ground which I uncovered while raking up the leaves. I knew what could happen next if I didn't move as swiftly and as fast as Joshua's deadly hands. I made my move just as Joshua was making his. It wasn't my swift and fast speed that saved that little worm from being bitten in half, but it was that I startled Joshua when I yelled "No Josh!". It gave me the needed edge and time to reach him and grab his hands. I don't know if the worm knows how lucky it was, or how close he came to being Joshua's lunch.

I know one thing for sure, if his mother would have been there and if Josh would have succeeded in eating the worm, I could see her in my minds eye, fainted dead away in her tracks on the lawn. Glad she wasn't there.

Life is mighty exciting and adventurous when I am with the mighty hunter and explorer Joshua.

Kid Jokes  (We're all kids!)

A skunk, a deer, and a duck went out to dinner. When they finished their meal, they found that the skunk didn't have a cent, the deer didn't have a buck, so they put it on the duck's bill!

School Daze

It was at the end of the school year, and a kindergarten teacher was receiving gifts from  her pupils.

The florist's son handed her a gift. She shook it, held it overhead, and said, "I bet I know what it is. Some flowers." "

That's right" the boy said, "but how did you know?"

"Oh, just a wild guess," she said.

The next pupil was the candy shop owner's daughter.

The teacher held her gift overhead, shook it, and said, "I bet I can guess what it is. A box of sweets."

"That's right, but how did you know?" asked the girl.

"Oh, just a wild guess," said the teacher.

The next gift was from the son of the liquor store owner. The teacher held the package overhead, but it was leaking. She touched a drop of the leakage with her finger and touched it to her tongue.

     "Is it wine?" she asked.

"No," the boy replied, with some excitement.

The teacher repeated the process, taking a larger drop of the leakage to her tongue.

     "Is it champagne?" she asked.

"No," the boy replied, with more excitement.

The teacher took one more taste before declaring, "I give up, what is it?"

With great glee, the boy replied, "It's a puppy!"
