Have a great summer!

Hi family, this will be my "Summer blog" so if you want to reply/comment, please do. It has finally gotten warm on this old farm. Last week we were in the 90's for 3 days but this week we're back in the 70's.

Boyd got all of his hay baled, and most of it in the barn. We had a little rain but as soon as it dries on the bales, he'll be back to work. For a while he's busy with David's pump company. The bridge is being replaced on our road so we have to go an extra 24 miles on each trip north. Boyd made 3 trips yesterday, David and Lisa each 1 so that's a lot of extra gas. The delivery truck drivers will not be happy. Hope no one in this area needs an ambulance for two months.

Thelma gave us a scare last week, I just talked to her and she's feeling better. She has to use her walker now but said she will soon be back using her cane.

I'm watching Michael Jackson's funeral right now. It's sad. I remember him from when he was a little boy singing with his brothers. I have always enjoyed his performances.

As you can see there is not much of interest happening on the farm. I'll be back when I have something more to say.  I Hope to hear from you all, please add a comment. Someone must be doing something interesting.  Love,

  1. 13 Aug 2009: Well, I'm back. It's been cool and rainy here, but they say the heat will be back next week. I have been busy adding photos etc. to my websites, not leaving the farm much since our bridge is still blocked off. I did go with Boyd to Rockford for dinner one night. We have only one restaurant in our little town, but the meal was delicious.

Boyd has been drilling wells. A couple days ago he walked around his well-drill, looked down at his feet and saw a rattlesnake. Luckily because of the noise and vibration of the well drill, the snake wasn't paying him any attention so he had time to pick up a big stick and kill it. He brought it home and nailed it to the garage. It was 43 inches long and had 12 buttons. So it was 12 years old. He said that he shook for 2 hours after.

A fellow drills wells near Spokane, finding water where no one else can. This year he drilled two, with one left to do. Let's say he's one-well-to-do man. [I read that limerick somewhere years ago.]

I called Evan and then Wayne today. Both are fine. Evan's long-term memory is remarkable but he will repeat what he told you 2 minutes ago. He said he saw Betty recently. I miss the visits we all used to have together. I didn't get to talk to Thelma as she was sleeping. Wayne says she sleeps a lot. Wayne had a tussle with some wasps and lost, he got stung about 6 times. They had a nest in his clothesline pipe and he threw a blanket over the end and made them mad. We've got wasps around here too, when it isn't raining. They like the dog's water dish.

Boyd's garden is really good this year. We've had plenty of potatoes, radishes, onions, purple cabbage, peas and string beans. No corn as yet. Our grandson took new photos of our farm at daybreak with a rainbow so I added them to our Wood family album here. They tore down our old high school so he will have his classes in small temporary buildings for a few years but his will be the first class to graduate from the new school. Debbie, Jan, Anita, Lonnie and Sheryl all graduated from our old high school.

Well, I've run out of chatter, wish some of you would reply here. I wonder what everyone's up to. Love to all, Leslie

  4. 9-9-2009 - The bridge is back open. Thelma, Wayne and Evan were coming to visit me, but Thelma was having a bad day so that's postponed. We had some chilly weather but now we're having a period of Indian summer. How disappointing to see that no one has added anything to this website lately. And to add insult to injury, it now says, everyday, at the bottom of all these web-pages: "No Friends Online". Leslie

  6. Hi Debbie, I loved hearing from you, even if you are reminding me that winter will be here too soon. It's not as warm here as it is in Lewiston, thank goodness. Take some photos of your tree to add here, if you can. We haven't seen any bear here on this old farm, just a mother deer with her two still-spotted young ones eating Boyd's garden a couple days ago. Not too long ago we saw a wolf running up our hill. Boyd & I both saw it. We sure could tell it from the coyotes we often see. My grandson took a fantastic photo of a big horned owl that was in our big pine tree. I hope to add it to my Wood photo album here soon. He's getting to be a fabulous photographer. Leslie

  8. Not much happening with me but one of Boyd's cousins died last night. He was younger than Boyd or me. He was only in hospital 4 days, with heart attack, before his death.
Sheryl could have swine flu, doctor gave her a shot and told her to rest. Several others in her class have it. I hate to get only bad news. Anybody got any good news? Leslie
