Hi family, hope everyone enjoyed the holiday week-end. We would love to hear what's going on with everyone. Boyd found a hairier hawk nest, on the ground, while he was cutting hay. It had four eggs in it (the size of small chicken eggs) so he left a large circle of grass around it. Now there are two eggs & two fluffy white baby hawks. The others will soon hatch. And a large bull moose came running across our field while the haying crew were picking up bales. Nature is alive & well on our old farm.
We had a nice visit with Thelma & Wayne. They had a whirl-wind trip including Wayne's family reunion, Thelma's Oregon high school reunion, a trip to Spokane to visit her sisters, and visiting in Clarkston with Debbie & their new great grand-daughter.
Boyd, David & I spent time with Lonnie & Kathy. I visited with Lonnie while the others put in new posts to hold up Lonnie's old fence. Boyd also lengthened Lonnie's wheelchair ramp to the back door to make it easier to get up. Then yesterday Lonnie was admitted into the hospital with another infection & dehydration. Doctors have decided not to remove his remaining leg. Prayers are still needed.

We had a great holiday weekend. We actually didn't do anything on Saturday, which was nice in itself. On Sunday we went to Coulee Dam to watch the laser light show and fireworks display. The show was great. They had booths set up with crafts, and way more food than a person should eat. Eric Engerbretson was playing throughout the afternoon and early evening. We got to know Eric several years ago when he used to sing at Silverwood. He even sang at our wedding almost 10 years ago. Can you believe it's been that long? He doesn't play at Silverwood anymore, but he still travels to Norway every year to do shows there, and has a coffee shop in Idaho that he's pretty excited about. As far as the dam tour... It is horrible.... I mean..... If it's your first time ever, it may be alright.
ReplyDeleteIf you remember the tour from before 9-11, the tour is not even worth talking about.
The only thing you get to do is take the elevator down the face of the dam and walk through the hallway to the observation balcony. They point out a colored picture of a generator and talk about how the water makes it turn. Then back up the elevator where they say "Thank you for coming. Have a nice day". lame!!! They have a new movie in the visitors center I don't remember seeing before that was pretty good.
You can see how entranced Mark is with the show.
I didn't hear "Roll On Columbia Roll On" once while I was there... Kind of miss that song. It made for a very nice holiday weekend.
Scott would be so jealous about your harrier hawk nest. He loves birds and always goes to the pet store to visit them because I won't let him have one at home. If he saw that you had babies, your phone would certainly be ringing with his trying to scam you into giving one to him.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Moose, there was a little moose running along the highway just as we were entering Electric City on Sunday. It was jogging along the lanes, every once in a while trying to get up the steep hill and off the road. A motorcycle policeman was alongside it just enough to let the traffic know that sometime was ahead so that it didn't get hit. We followed it for a couple miles before it finally made its escape.
Great photos Gerri. I've never stopped at the dam or saw the light show. Maybe when we retire. [Ha Ha, as if Boyd would retire.] Boyd goes to great pains not to disturb our wildlife, except for a big bunch of magpies that we would like to get rid of. And we could do without the coyotes that keep getting our barn cats. One year we had 2 baby owls in our backyard. When they fell out of the tree we had to dance around them to get down our back stairs. As big as they were, I thought they were safe, but the raccoons got them both. The raccoons came to eat our cat food on the back patio. Only scattered feathers left. Nature can be cruel. I think baby moose are so ugly they're cute. Hey, to the rest of our family who are reading this, if you took holiday photos we would love to see them. Keep in touch, Leslie
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th from Arizona Allen's All is HOT here and we are putting in a new slider and front window. Hopefully to keep out the heat some more as they are doubled glass. Our livestock here is rabbits and quail a few coyots and we have seen 2 scorpians ( not so nice). Didn't know Carlos was so scrimy about creepy crawlers but I do not want them in the house either. Roses and other plants we have planted are doing great. The guy before us had stripped everything clear out so we have had fun putting our own in. I sure will pray for Lonnie that is sure to bad He has had quite a time over all this. Darlene (Sun City retreat)
ReplyDeleteHi again gang. I came onto a photo of our baby owls. They looked even more huge when it was cool & they fluffed up their feathers. Leslie
